Henry: I had started to get into running a little bit...
Henry: … because I was overweight and out of shape. And so I had started running and just a few months into that is actually when I had my first relapse, and I probably would’ve done the same thing that I did in past years, do it for like 2 or 3 months and say, “I don’t want to do this anymore, I’m going to give up on it.” But being diagnosed with MS I think motivated me to try harder. And I did, I stuck with it for well over a year. I come home feeling tired, but so relaxed and so clear headed.
Amy: It was really therapeutic for you.
Henry: Very therapeutic.
Jill: That’s good. I think that people think sometimes when you have MS you just can’t do. You can’t do whatever. You can’t run, you can’t run errands, you can’t sit in a movie theater. I don’t know. And I mean, I think it’s great that you get up there and you prove to yourself that you can do it.
Henry: And some days there are days you can’t.
Jill: That’s true.
Henry: I’ve gone out and then a mile into it call Eileen and say, “Um, can you come and pick me up? I don’t have it today.” But the next day completely different. It could be better. There could be days if I could go out and walk most of it. It doesn’t matter to me. It’s just being outside. Especially on a nice day. Tanning my head you know?
Henry: It’s, you know, it’s just enjoyable.
Jill: Right. And it’s important that you find out what’s enjoyable for you and what you can do. Because, you know, I guess my thing also is that there are also people who don’t have MS that went out to run, and after an hour probably called their wife too and just like, “come get me, I had enough.”
